DMC-GH1 基本上就是可以錄影的 G1 版本，搭載使用 Venus Engine HD 處理器，可以錄製 1920 x 1080 @24 fps 的影片，支援 H.264/AVC 影片編碼。在搭配 14 - 140 mm kit 鏡頭時，在錄影時即可以連續地自動對焦。

4/3 系統的第一款可錄影單反相機，GH1 由於沒有反光鏡，使得 GH1 比目前任何的 DSLR 都要細，GH1新機採用跟 4/3 系統一樣大小的感測器，相對於 35mm 相機，焦長轉換率跟 4/3 一樣，為 2X ，跟 DSLR 不同的是，不具反光鏡結構，使用 EVF，沒有光學觀景窗，使得 GH1 可以實現更輕巧的機身以及更細的 4/3 鏡頭系統。在鏡頭上，GH1 仍然可以透過轉接環使用原本 4/3 系統的鏡頭，鏡頭的支援性並不會有問題。 GH1 的機背搭載 3.0" 大型的 TFT LCD, 460,000 像素，LCD 跟 G1 一樣可以翻轉，支援更自由的拍攝角度，而EVF電子觀景窗為 144萬像素，100%視野率。
